Yet Another Fob/Lockout Issue

I've read the old posts, and I think I'm really stuck.

Here's the deal:

2001 Boxster, bought used last summer.
Always used the fobs, no problems.
Got back from vacation and learned about the fob dormancy deactivation "feature."
Tried the key in the cylinder and it just spins 90 degrees left and right, obviously not catching.
Called AAA, they sent one and then another locksmith out.
Were able to pry open the window and get a stick in, but the infrared sensor seemed to disable the unlock button.

Getting the key to the ignition would be prime, but isn't gonna happen.

Would popping the front trunk help anything? (Disconnect the battery reset the alarm and fob deactivation?)

Alternatively, is there anything a shop or dealer could do short of buying a new lid (would like a new one, but not ready to spend the money right now)?

I'm fairly handy, but this has me scratching my head thinking I'm really screwed!

Have you tried to hold the key to the left for about 15 seconds? It may roll the windows down.

Nothing, but thanks for the effort.

are you sure your battery is not dead? check under the front tow plug and make sure the previous owner did not re-route the emergency frunk release cable. if not, i believe you can remove the front passenger tire and wheel liner and reach it that way.
