metal impeller water pump

I there a water pump currently available with a metal impeller?

Burg Boxster 03-16-2011 04:43 PM

not sure but I wouldn't want to use one if there were . . .

Why would that be? For fear of a chewing up the engine block in the event of a bearing failure perhaps?

Yes understood but I was wondering if there had been some design work done recently as someone suggested to me that this is now an option

metal impeller doesn't mean its better.
I recently installed a Lasso metal on a VW only to have it weep coolant from the time it was installed until at 70k miles I replaced it with the OEM composite impeller.

Okay so the Boxster Laso might be the metal impeller one that was spoken of. Yes if it is not done right then it can create other problems. I just wanted an option for changing the pump over and over.

Do any have issues with the Laso pump? Does it have a metal impeller?

According to my supplier, the Laso pump has a plastic impeller - but its a cheap(er) alternative to the genuine Porsche pump.
Why would you mess about with your cooling system pump - would you buy an aftermarket oil pump if it was found that they tend to wear out at 50,000 miles?
The coolant pump is just as vital as an oil pump.....

Okay thanks for information on the Laso. Of course the water pump is vital; not sure I understand your point. Have a read below....
