ignition question

On my 01 boxster when I turn the key on to start the engine it stays turned all the way to the right. If I leave it there the fan in the climate control does not blow at all, if I turn the key back to the left (slightly)the motor does not turn off, but the fan starts to work. Any explaination for this? Thanks

Common problem. Ignition switch is bad.
