there's a thread posted earlier on how to take them off. but then you have to deal with the look of empty space with our smaller license plates.

They are not bumpers
 

But called Bumperettes. And when my car was hit from the rear at a stop light, I was sure glad I had them as they prevented any damage to the sheet metal or lights as the car slid into me. When you can limit the damage to just replaceable things like bumper covers and crossbars and not have to straighten body panels, you'll be glad for the US crash protection bumper rules.

Yes. And probably why Porsche NA shows the car on their website without them.

Please note the Bumperettes on our old 2004 Boxster S were black while the 2011 is the same color as the car body.

Have them professionally painted, I think you can send yours in to bumperplugs.com, you won't reget it.

Two questions for you Phil; What's big changes have you found between your old 2004S and the new 2011S? Also, whats that under the Boxster S logo on the rear trunk lid? A dealership decal? If it is, it has to go!

Yes, a dealership decal. It was removed by the dealer we before we paid for the car as pictured below.

Biggest difference is the engine and performance. 310 bhp vs 268 bhp = 42 bhp more. Makes a BIG difference.

The stick shift is much smoother. Perhaps this is because it is new vs 30k miles on the clock.

Sport Exhaust. I love it.

Bi-Xenon headlights that TURN. Daytime running lights.

Auto Dimming mirrors and rain sensitive windshield wipers.

Ventillated POWER seats with memory and lumbar support. More comfortable.

Can raise and lower the top <30 mph which is very convenient.

Multi function steering wheel is very handy. Plus this car has a computer with tire pressure, avg mpg and miles to empty features. And an outside temperature gauge.

Bose stereo with surround sound, navigation, XM, park assist and bluetooth for the phone are very nice. Navi is fun in the mountains as you can find out your exact altitude.

4 yr/50,000 mi warranty. The old one was 3 yr/36,000 mi.

Only downside so far is no spare tire. :(

Also, you have to get your oil changed every year or 10,000 miles. It was 15,000 and no year requirement in 2004. It's a good thing to have a mechanic poke around the engine at least once a year IMVHO.

And the sticker was just under $10,000 and we got a $3,000 discount this time. So $7,000 in 7 years for all this extra stuff works for me. ;)

I don't understand.

The sticker on the new car was $10,000 higher than the 2004 sticker. but we got a $3k discount from MSRP...so the new car was $7 higher than what we paid in 2004.

says the 986 was an every other year oil change if mileage didn't trigger a change before that.

And every expert I ever talked to said that 5k or one year for most of us was the max between oil changes no matter what the Porsche PR said...and no matter if a 986 or a 987.
