Can a 3.2 replace a 2.7 w/ no issues?
Can a 2.7 be replaced with an S engine (3.2) with no issues....ie...plug and play? Or are major modifications needed?

There are a lot of postings on this forum about swaps. Running a search would be the best way to find out what is needed.

The year and DME version are important. Mounts and block are exactly the same. Here is a good guide:

thanks. i read the report but still not sure if i could put an S engine (2001 3.2) into my 2001 base box. does anyone know if this is possible without major modifications?

Same year, plug and play.

I'm thinking you will need to use the clutch and pressure plate from your 2.7 and the air filter/MAF/and tubing from the 3.2.

I think the dme will have to be remapped.

No remap of the DME required. Both the 2.7 and the 3.2 for 2001 used Motronic 7.2.

Motronic 7.2 is the ECU hardware version. There are different flash images/firmware for the Motronic 7.2 for 2.7, 3.2, and 3.4 engines. Although it might kind of work with the 2.7 program, the proper approach is to have your ECU programmed with the 3.2 firmware (requires the dealer programmer or a custom aftermarket flash program), but you won't need to change the airbox/MAF/air intake tubing; they are the same.
If you've got an '01, the most important thing to make life plug-and-play is to use an '00 or '01 S engine; otherwise you will have to swap the fuel rails off the old engine, as they changed to non-return fuel arrangement in '02... |
