I wouldn't buy a car that's been tracked or I'd certainly ask for a big discount.

Sure its only been tracked 4x but most likely driven incredibly hard on the street everyday.

What are the risks of track use? Clutch seriously worn/overheated. Brakes cooked. Wheel bearings overheated. Suspension worn. Engine overheated.

No thanks. The last thing I want is someone else's used and abused vehicle.

After all negotiating there is a $5000 difference between the two cars with the 06 being more expensive. I think $5K is a huge difference in these cars in general and even more so with these two particular cars.

I've spoken to the dealer today and if I can get them down a bit more I will buy the 05 S with 20K miles. It will get a PPI this week.

SeaNile, one of the biggest differences between the 05 and the 06 are the smart air bag technology in the 2006. Do you have young children?

It is much easier to put a child seat or booster seat in the 2006. Check with your State laws too. The 2006 will sense a person under about 90 pounds, and automatically turn off the air bag on that side.

There has to be some way to turn off the airbag in the 05?

Realistically, taking my 6yr old for a ride may never happen. Not sure I could convince the wife on that one since this car will be a convert.

I like the 06 and the options but not for $5000 more.

Have you driven a car with 19s on your roads?

I ask because my impression of PA roads is they aren't the best.

Have you priced the tires?

For an occasional nice day on smooth roads...they would be just fine. But I've had to buy too many wheels because they were bent to not have more crush section of tire under me for the northern states' roads.

Good point, the roads up this way are bad, at best.

Ironically, the 05 S I had last year, for 3 weeks, had the same options (maybe 19" wheels but i forget) and 16K miles. Bought it for $31400 and had 12 months left of CPO coverage.

I'm calling tomorrow on the 05 S to see if they will split the different and settle on $26,000. I don't think the 06 S is worth the negotiated price of $31,400.

Should finalize the deal tomorrow, schedule the PPI and if the results are good find a transport company. I'm thinking there is a small chance of taking delivery on Jan 21.

Only option I'd really look to add to this car is iPhone connection.

Yes, the airbag can be turned off in the '05....but it's gonna co$t you a bit more money to do.

My young daughters have been driving with me in the Boxster since they were 5 and 7. Not at the same time! :D
