Boxster reliable according to Consumer Reports

http://autos.yahoo.com/articles/autos_content_landing_pages/1638/cars-that-will-make-it-past-200000-miles/

Apparently, the Boxster is very reliable indeed. Of course this is the newest 2011 Boxster that has been rated most reliable, but it's still quite shocking to see considering the posts stating otherwise on forums.

I wonder how can you rate any car built in 2011 for reliablity, when enough time or miles haven't past yet to determine the durability of starters, brakes, key FOBs, etc? Maybe the 2007 versions, but not 2011's.

Keep in mind, the bad comments stated on this forum are only the folks who take the time to post. Boxsters are good cars as mine is an example of a '98 with 4 owners and very good service life. I have 127k miles and still have the original major parts folks complain about. I'm very happy with mine.

Merry Christmas to those who celebrate.

It's interesting the 01 Boxster is on the Consumers Reports 'reliable used cars' for the $14 to $16k category, and 06 for the $24 to $30k category. The other interesting thing is that all 3 models are above average for 'Engine, major' for the history report though there are several years of 'insufficient data'. Don't think too many make reports for them . Note sure where they buy there cars price wise though

I agree on the price comments. I'm looking for an S at a good price. The 01/02 S are 20K, 03 S 21-22K, 04 S 25K and the 987 is at least 27K. Most 05 S cars are 30K+. Seems the market is slightly above what we think these cars should be selling for. You can find the cars for less but they are a little older, 00/01 and have 65K+ miles on them. Same can be said for the 987, there are a few for 25-27K but they have 40-50K miles on them.

How long you been looking? Took me a while and in fact I almost gave up, didn't feel like going all the way to FL or CA and I'm NC. There was one car up in Salem VA that I wish I had made the drive to look at, it was a 2002 'S' with 50k miles, think the guy wanted 17k for it. Nice cold winter is a good time to buy, I got mine in Oct/Nov.
