Ready for some brake updates
I am ready to replace my brake pads and rotors on my '98 base. I have 2 questions.
1) What pads does the forum recomended to use ? I want pads that grip well but don't eat away at the rotors and won't squeal. 2) Can I replace the stock base rotors with S cross drilled rotors and still use the base caliper ? Is there truely a benifit to the S rotors ? What about S calipers ? Other than red are they different ? |
S rotors (and calipers, you need both due to the diameter) are a bolt on for the front. The rears are another story as the base cars used different rear hub carriers and e-brakes, so the S rotors do not fit without changing out the hub carriers (read expensive for little gain).................

The Cross drill looks great but they also make your pads wear quicker and create more dust. If you want cross drilled or slotted, I believe you can buy aftermarket base rotors made that way. Try ebay. My S has the cross drilled rotors and I use Mintex pads and I still have dust. Good luck.

You don't need S caliper & rotors unless you're tracking the car
I run 245 in the front and they have a lot more grip than the factory 205 or 225. So I couldn't get ABS to kick in on the track. So I upgraded my rotors / calipers to S since I intend to continue tracking the car.
If you don't go to the track, then I would suggest getting cross drilled rotors and OEM "Sport" pads - You can get them from Jeff Clark at Sunset Porsche (dealer cost + 15%). I think Vertex Auto carries cross drilled rotors. All the best! Quote:
