I'm pretty sure the airbag light will come on because the seatbelt buckle is part of the seat and the POSIP computer will be looking for that signal.
You would have to remove the buckle and leave it in the car in order to not get the light.
Also, depending on the model year, some seats include an airbag in the seat's side bolster.
If that's the case it will also throw the code.
