Ipod aux cable for CDR220?
 

Hi guys,

I wanted to know which cable you would recommend for me to connect an ipod/iphone to my CDR220 radio unit. Also, I wanted to know if they came out with a cable that would work with an iPhone 4? And last question, how hard is it to set up the cable? I'm guessing you have to plug in the cable behind the main unit, so how do you bring the cable back out? I hope you get what I'm asking in my last question!

They have an external audio input cable that connects to the rear of the CDR-220 along with three options for the player end connector (ipod/iphone, aux, or RCA jacks).

Installation instructions are on their site.

Please note that you will lose use of the factory CD changer (this is where the external audio cable plugs in).

I have a cable from iWireP which I don't need. It works great with older iPods, but will only charge (not play) iPhones.

Not exactly what you want but shows ipod pin assignments PLUS shows how to work around the newer Ipod/ dock crippling feature.

You'll need a soldiering iron.

Just get the cable from http://www.discountcarstereo.com/detail.aspx?ID=1467 and do the install yourself in 30 mins.

No soldering required. Just remove the radio (you'll have to get the radio removal keys online $5) and plug the cable into the open connector for the CD changer on the rear of the radio. Then attach the power wire on the cable to the power antenna wire using the included clip using a pair of pliers.

Then route the cable down the back of the center console and either drilll a small hole in one of the center shelves or keep going to the ashtray area and exit there. Just depends on where you want the cable.

Re-install radio. Select AUX in (how to do this is part of the instructions) and your're up and running.

be careful in pulling on the extension cord to route it back towards the front of the dash. I yanked too aggresively and the wires snapped right out of their little sockets. I had to pull the radio back out and pull a MacGyver without any tools to crimp the copper wire back together with some electrical tape as a temporary fix.
A $30 error as I had to order a new Ipod/aux jack from Becker here in NJ.

Also, when you use the hooks, you have to remove them before you push the radio all the way back in. There are little tabs on the side near where the removal keys are inserted that have to be depressed inwards to allow the keys to release.
