Doors won't lock
 

I tried to close my passenger door, and it wouldn't latch. After messing with it a few times I got it to latch, but won't lock.

I get the same results with the key lock-button, and with the door-lock. It locks momentarily, but then the alarm beeps twice and the doors unlock.

The background: I worked all weekend wiring an amp. During this project, I removed the passenger door, removed the door panel and replaced the speaker wire. Afterward, the door worked, no problems.

There aren't any alignment issues, since I didn't move any brackets.

Yeah, I figured.

I was hoping someone could point me to a specific problem, given the symptoms. My weekend is up, and I am road-trippin' Monday-Wednesday with a Porsche that won't lock :eek:

this sounds more like the door lock mechanism went bad.
It's a common issue and I think there are a few DIY writeups on the forum

Well, Now my passenger door won't open, from the inside or out. I know thw problem is behind the door panel, but you can't get the panel off without opening the door (Which came first- the chicken or the passenger door?

Anyway, the dealer tells me I need to pry the panel back, then unlatch it manually. Doesn't sound pleasant!

The inside door handle opens the door mechanically. Do you get the "springing" when you pull on the handle? If not, the Bowen cable has dislodged.

Do you have a keyhole on your passenger side? If so, key in hole turns the lock mechanically as well. And the key tumbler is connected to the DLM just be lining up the flat tumbler into the hole in the DLM.

This sounds like it may be the case. When I pull the inside handle, there is spring tension, but it is different from the driver's side. The driver side has an additional tension feel when you pull it 1/2". The passenger side doesn't have the additional tension, which leads me to believe the cable is disconnected.

I saw in the Bentley manual (after the fact, of course) the note about the hook you need to connect prior to reassembly. I didn't do this, but I get the impression that this is only if a remove the lock assembly, is that correct?

Bottom line, I still need to get the door open prior to removing the panel. Any suggestions?

You should be able to remove all the screws even with the door closed. I don't know how much movement in the door panel this would give you though... What about that triangular piece at the corner of the door pocket? Would that come loose if you remove the really long screw? It may give you some view of what's happening inside.
