987 key programmed to 986?

Can you use a 987 3 button remote on a 986? I need a new key and the 987 key is an option if it can be programmed to my 01' 986.

Before you go that way, just be aware of a few things..

The 987 key is really nice compared to the black 986 Key.. BUT.. the button on the 987 key are easier to push and often get push when you have it in your pocket.. half of the time I hang around the car with the key in my pocket, the trunk or the frunk just pops up.. :P Or I just get in the car and see the warning that my trunk is open.. arg! The 986 key was way more 'practical' for that :)

this been said, Good luck in your searchs :)

I do not believe you can mix keys from model years. I know that the key head for my 97 required a unique part number, which has a lot to do with the software version of the motronics, etc.
