Price check/thoughts on 08 S
Car seems to be in great shape. 08 S 10K miles, not a ton of options, heated seats, bose and windscreen. What are these cars going for? Asking low 40's I'm thinking mid-upper 30's is more like it.
Thoughts? |
Most '08S, with low mileage, are listing in the low $40Ks....
|
$40k sounds about right.
|
Original sticker shows 58K and change so it's not a decked out car.
|
If you were in Australia, it would cost you the thick end of $120,000 (new = $150,000).
Think yourself Very Lucky to get one for $40k..... I'm green with envy! :( |
Stove, Its all relative.... Im sure some one making $100,000 a year in the US is making $300,000 a year in Australia doing the same job.
|
I'm not thrilled at 40K as this started as a 20-25K search for a 987 S. There are a few 05 S cars out there, 20-35K miles for $33-36K, so I figure would $38K for an 08 S with 2 years left on warranty be a better "deal"?
|
If you go for 08 why not just get IMS-less 09??

I think that the average salary here is $55,000 / year. |

08S is a 3.4 but still has the dreaded i.m.s . 40k plus is about average i have seen some less optioned ones up in the mid 30k range . there are a lot of 09 base models around , 255 hp with p.d.k for around the same price with the freshened look and no i.m.s to worry about.

IMS install is what $2500? Trust me you want the IMS-less engine. Wait for next spring price will drop, that's a 100% guarantee!
|
If they will come down to 40K I'll buy it!

I'm in no rush so I will wait. Not sure if 35k for an 05 S or mid 40's for an 09 is better. Maybe an 03/04 S for 20's is better yet.
I think the dealer with the 09 is going to stay very close to 50k. That's just too much for me. |
New one.
I just was speaking to a friend who bought a 2009 - waited forever to get it. And then after winter storage the battery was dead this spring. Then a second battery died and then a third. Turns out they all had a cell go bad and couldn't be charged or jumped. Waited his whole life to buy a Porsche ( boyhood dream) and them got a guards red lemon. Returned it to the dealer and got a bimmer.

SeaNile, for comparison purposes, I recently bought an 05 S w/pasm, 19" Carrera wheels, heated seats, auto climate and full leather, 32k miles and CPO for $30,500.
I had to make the same decisions as you. In the end, I'm really happy with this choice. Great car, very reasonably priced. Maybe I will get an 09 when my cpo runs out...Matt |

Matt, That is exactly what I am looking for. CPO would be a huge bonus, maybe even a necessity with the IMS issue. Did you buy from a dealer or private? Where in PA are you? There was an 05 that recently sold at Rosen. John |
Well, if we're doing comparisons, I bought my 06 exactly one year ago for $31,700. Base 2.7, triple black, Xenon, "S" wheels/tires, 14.5k miles, CPO , minor paint chips/scratches. Low miles and S models really seem to command premium prices with Porsches.
I'm planning on keeping it until I can afford a '10 S. Steve |
Maybe consider
a low mileage '05 with decent options and get the IMS done immediately. So you have to pay $1.5-3k for the LN IMS, you are saving $15k on the '05 versus the '08 and have the same basic styling and the no IMS-inner-seal design by taking this approach. The '05 is usually the easiest/cheapest IMS replacement there is on a 987. (I say usually because there are rare exceptions.)
Recall that in 2012 there will be a new model out...probably available mid 2011 so any 987 will be one model dated almost immediately. That means a drop in value for the 987s so you have to be careful not to overpay when buying any current model. If you are looking for a CPO, look very carefully at the transferability of the CPO. "Once the covered vehicle is traded or sold to any non-authorized dealer or commercial broker, this warranty is void." Good luck.... |
Here are the two I am considering. One from a private owner the other from a dearler. these type of dealers scare me a bit.

John, I'm in Central Bucks. I got the car from a Porsche dealer in the midwest and had it shipped to me. I did a lot of research for about three months and found this to be far and away the best deal. Comparable cars both from dealers and private owners were more like 34-36k which seemed overpriced to me. Research + Patience = good deal most every time. Matt |
