No more free OBD checks at Autozone (CA)
Well, I never needed an OBD II scanner, but tonight a CEL came on and I thought I'd stop at an Autozone to grab the codes. Well, it turns out that some professional mechanics association has sued to prohibit free OBD checks, so now Autozone only sells the scanners (of course quite overpriced).
So, I am ordering one from Amazon, there's one for US$19 that may just help me. mcfly |
Yes, you need to be a highly trained, professional mechanic in order to properly use an OBD II sanner...right
I picked up a nice one on eBay a couple years back...never had a CEL on the Box, but have used it on the DD a couple of times. Still can't find the receptacle on the '73! |
Didn't OBD2 come in around '88 in CA
and '96 in the rest of the states. So your '73 wouldn't have the port or the computer.

Just to let you know this is only true in CA. From what the autozone has told me its only a CA issue with some Mechanics union or whatever suing autozone.
|
Must be a California thing as Autozone stores in Texas still read the codes.

I just had mine checked @AZ here in Texas about a month or so ago, just to compare to my Durametric readings :) Very nice of them to do it.
California has way too many Democrats in power, lol. |
So your '73 wouldn't have the port or the computer.
Sorry Mike...that was my attempt at a joke...thought it was pretty obvious. :D |
