How many fans and where are they

Hi,

on my 2001 base 2.7 boxster, when the engine compartment fan comes on, I can only hear the fan noise from 1 side. Is that normal ??

I though there were 2 fans ? Or are they both on the same side ?? Or do I have a broken fan ?

I could be wrong, but I think you only have one fan on the passenger side.

Now you do have two radiator fans ahead of both front tires.

The left side vent is used for engine air intake (no fan).
The right side is for cooling the engine compartment. It has an exhaust fan mounted in there so when the engine bay temp increases beyond the threshold determined by the DME that fan activates.

And as randall also indicated, there are the two cooling fans up front.

Thanks for the clarification. Ah, so the 2 fans are up front. Good to know the single fan at the engine bay is normal

As another forum member described it, think McDonald's McDLT - hot on one side, cold on the other.
