Rear Speakers

Does anybody know where to get the best priced "upgraded" rear speakers for a boxster that doesn't have any rear speakers yet?

Huh? Your post doesn't make a lot of sense.

The aftermarket speakers can be had on Ebay for about $249.00.

Now the rigid, storage box into which they must be installed is far more rare of a find on Ebay, and the black ones always go for $300 and up. I bought a red one for my black interior for a scant $90 six months ago and attempted to dye it black ... didn't work well, but it's no longer bright red and the top is down most of the time so it's unseen.

I think if I had it to do all over again, I'd have bought some really good self-enclosed speakers and velcro them to the carpet behind the roll bars.

$245 with free shipping. Quality product, Quality vendor.

His prices just went up (picked up mine for $235 w/ free shipping).

Is getting the rear speakers equivalent to the "Bose" system I've heard about? Or is the Bose system something else?

Brucelee 04-29-2005 05:05 AM

No, the Bose system is, as it implies, a complete set of Bose speakers that go with the basic 220 radio sending unit. I think Bose ads its own amplifiers to the basic unit, which is really quite crappy (the radio I mean!)

However, the overall sound of the Bose unit is better.

You can simply add a pair of speakers in the back storage unit in each side storage cubbie. Cheap addition and it works fairly well for the money!

OEM vs. PnP vs. "Upgrade"

I've been following the thread - and ready to get a rear speaker kit. Saw the PnP unit on ebay a few days ago. Today I saw an "Upgrade" kit, but no PnP. Any comments between Upgrade and PnP? I think PnP was the one mentioned earlier in the forum.
