1997 Boxster Ignition Key

I'm trying to buy a plain transponder key for my 1997, for a spare and to use when leaving the car at valet parking. I have found ones that indicate they are compatible 1998 to 2004, but can't get a staight answer on the compatibility with the 1997, I am not aware of a difference in the 1997 ingnition and the 1998 ignition. Is anyone aware of any differences that would not allow me to buy the non remote key for the 1998 and have it programmed for my 1997 boxster.

The key heads are very model specific. Do not buy one for another model year, and never buy one that doesn't have it's unique hang tag with the part number and the all-important barcode on it for programming.

I'd recommend you buy it and the key blank from Sunset Imports. The pair will be a little less than $200 shipped, but you will know you have the right part the first time.

You'll then have to take proof of ownership and the car to a stealership for programming. Expect a one-hour labor charge for the pleasure of doing ten minute's electronics work for you.
