The figures are slighty off. In my Porsche manual, Porsche rates the S at 5.7 sec to 0-62mph and 5.4sec for a 0-60 run. C&D ripped a 5.2 sec 0-60 off back in 2000 with a 986 S as well.

The S has the extra gear and likely more torque. Also likely torque is made a bit lower than in the 987 standard.

Adam is correct. If you want to compare km/h, the 987 does 0-100 Km/h in 6.2 seconds vs. the 986S' 5.7 seconds.

The 986S is 100 lbs heavier than the 986 but only 50 lbs heavier than a base 987. It still has significantly more torque (236 lb ft vs 199 lb ft).

At the discounts that new '04 986S cars are going for, I can't think of one good reason to get a 987. A 987S is a different story as it has a performance edge on the 986S. But to pay more for a base 987 and have less performance? :confused:
