Exhaust leak (can a muffler shop do this?)

Hey all,
I've had a "card-in-the-spokes" sound from my exhaust for some time now and want to try to get it fixed before Boxtoberfest

Is this something that a Porsche (dealer or good indy) has to do, or can a hole-in-the-wall muffler shop do a smoke test as well? I have a feeling that my indy might charge me a lot to hook his smoke machine to it, so just curious if this is something a smaller shop that specializes in exhaust/mufflers can do.

I have a feeling it's coming from around the manifold somewhere... how much of a pain in the ass will that be to fix? (what is the fix for a manifold leak?)

The fix is a new manifold.
Don't wait too long or you could do damage to the exhaust valves.

Happy Boxstering,

Hey Pedro,

Is that anti-seize lube for a beard? hehe

btw, I really appreciate all the great info you have on your site. It came in handy when I replaced my water pump last weekend.

If it is the exhaust manifold you could purchase a used one.
I may have one set stored away. Let me know which side.
The main problem is not the manifold, but removing the old one without breaking any of the bolts.
Generally when it's the OEM manifold and it's been there for 5 or more years it can be a PITA.
Happy Boxstering,
Pedro

Makes me very happy to hear that the website is useful.
I'm trying to add new stuff regularly to keep it fresh.
The latest are the Tech Articles that I write for PCA Gold Coast Region.
There's interesting info in most of them.
