Anyone that has added the aerokit 2 wing to their car...
 

Could I see a pic of the wing on the car? I was also wondering what you used as a measurement from the rear edge of the trunk lid to the base of the wing? Also what did you do to disable the retractable wing? Any help would be great. Thanks

Mine has it but it was ordered with the car at the time. If you need pics/measurements just let me know. From what I know the wing was disabled too but I can use the buttons to extend/retract it when I want. Not sure at 75mph what happens as I cannot see what is going on in the rear. :D

What year is your Boxster? Aero II Wing on a 2003/2004 should already have hole marks ready for drilling under the lid.

I added an Aero I wing, I liked it better. I had to do the measurements, not too hard.

As for disabling the retractable wing, yes, you’ll need to order this part# 986-612-981-23, cost about $16.

Then follow these instructions, takes about 10 min to do:

5.6.2 Remove the rear luggage compartment lining of the rear luggage compartment and unclip the 6-
pin plug connection to the drive of the retractable spoiler (located to the left of the lock on the
bottom of the retractable spoiler carrier).

5.6.3 Disconnect the 6-pin plug connection and establish the plug connection with the 6-pin cable link.

5.6.4 Clip in the 6-pin plug connection onto the bottom of the carrier again.

6. Concluding work.

Take your time, measure twice, drill once!!!

I'm guessing about 4" from the rear edge of the decklid to the trailing edge of the wing supports? Can anyone with an aerokit 2 verify this for me? I would really appreciate it.

Steve, I'd just email Maurice, and ask him to bring a measuring tape with him when he meets up with Jaay on Tuesday at a Porsche event. Jaay has a factory aerokit on his car, including the wing.

Ah, you may be right. Didn't know the wing was different btw 1 and 2.

The bottom edge is exactly 3" from the bottom lid and the bottom edges are 5" from the edge on both sides :)

It's the ‘97-04.5 Boxster new OEM Aero Kit Pelican part described as Boxster Wing & Hardware # 986 512 992 00.

It was on the car when purchased but appears to be high quality and good fit that matches well with the side skirts. Hope this helps. I have not disabled the spoiler.

All you folks with the AERO 2 wing, he doesn't need pictures of what the wing looks like on your car... He needs one of you to just take a tape measure to your wing's support columns, and measure how many inches it is to the trunklid's trailing edge. Can you do that for him so that he knows how to position the wing when he installs it?! :D

Might I also sujest that when you mark the holes use a fine marker to make cross hairs slightly bigger than the drill size. Then use a small pilot drill first. Many people who don't drill metal often or if the drill is not properly sharpend will "walk the bit" and the hole will not be where it was marked. If you have cross hairs you can see if this is happening while you are drilling and make corrections so your hole doesn't end up in the wrong place.

So I have found out after calling about 10 dealers and writing to PNA, that no one in Porsche knows how to install an aero 2 wing! WTF?! This is the response I got from Porsche:

Although we would like to assist you with your inquiry regarding installation of an aero kit for your 1999 Boxster vehicle; we do have to advise you, that it is our recommendation to contact your local or preferred Authorized Porsche service department. We strongly encourage you to speak with a Porsche Service advisor or the Service Manager for furher details . There, you will be able to speak with a contact who will be able to offer their expertise in advising you accordingly, as we do not have a technical line to consult with regarding inquiries such as these.

Is that the aero kit I or the aero kit II spoiler? I have what looks like the same spoiler installed from the factory, what version they call it, I don't know.

That's the aero kit 1 wing. The aero 2 wing looks kinda like the 996 GT3 wing.

It's the aerokit 2 wing. The lip beneath it is one of the wings that mounts in place of the retractable spoiler. Like others, I had problems with the retractable wing's mounting points cracking. I had a body shop mold that wing into a fiberglass trunk lid, and I got rid of all of the retractable mechanism. Between the glass trunk lid and the removal of the retractable stuff, I had a net loss of about 25 pounds...and I've got more downforce at the rear from the new setup. And I love the way it looks.
