First HPDE - What to bring?

I have my first HPDE next weekend in my new to me 2001 Boxster S. It is at the mechanics now getting new brake pads/rotors/fluid, new tires, a more aggressive alignment and a safety inspection.

What items do you recommend bringing to the track in addition to the following:

Helmet
chairs
food/drink
duct tape
blue tape
air compressor
tire pressure gauge

paper towels + glass cleaner
oil
brake fluid
long sleeve shirt
sunscreen
self tech form

These are good lists, Topless' list is more for the full race check list and a lot of those items don't apply for you.

Since this is your first time I would hold off buying an air compressor, but the rest of the items on the lists above are all things that I would bring

The biggest thing is just to show up and have fun

Just my opinion, but I wouldn't suggest running with 0W40 for a track day...too thin for proper lubrication and subject to heat shear. Have your mechanic fill with 5 or 10W40. One of the fellows that runs in our region cooked his engine by running M1 0W40.

Why do you attribute the damage to his engine to the cold viscosity of the oil he was using? While I would prefer 5-40 to 0-40, I am interested to hear why you're so confident it was strictly due to the oil viscosity.

Number one thing to bring is an open mind and leave any ego at home. Make sure you have fun, but don't get carried away with lap times. If you have to pay extra for your transponder then don't get one. That way you won't even know what your lap times are. I had a friend roll a car 2 weekends ago on the first lap of the second session since he had something to prove.

As for what to bring:
long sleeve shirt and pants
sunscreen!
Extra fluids for everything.
Gatorade/water stay hydrated
Torque wrench (I know by experience)
tire pressure gauge
basic tools
sun glasses
extra clothes to work on your car (I have a dickies jump suit that just goes over my clothes for when I do basic work or change tires)
if it's hot I also bring a tank top and workout shorts (at buttonwillow 2 weeks ago this saved me since it was 95 degrees and everyone had jeans and long sleeves

Short Version: I had a blast!

Longer Version: I eagerly awaited this event and it exceeded my expectations. I got put into the Green run group and had a great instructor in my car for the three 30 minute runs. I consistently gained more experience and confidence and felt like I got faster with each lap. By the last session, I was catching and getting the wave by other cars in the group that were faster earlier in the day. It's amazing to immediately feel the feedback for when you hit the perfect line and inputs with a off-timed line/inputs.

Thanks again for all of your comments and encouragement. After the PDE in early June and this DE last weekend, you can say I am officially hooked!

Congrats! It sounds like the bug has bit lol. Be careful, it's a slippery slope and makes cocaine look like a cheap addiction to flour
