PSM failure message on '07 boxster

Is this reason for concern?...I am still under warranty under Nov. '10. Thanks for any input.

Lobo1186 06-11-2010 09:04 AM

of course it is of concern... but under warranty you should be fine. I cant imagine it being an immediate issue but you will have no PSM till its fixed.

boxsternut 06-13-2010 05:37 AM

Any idea what causes this error or what has to be done to fix it?

Lobo1186 06-13-2010 08:00 AM

no clue to be honest. I personally dont have PSM so I wouldnt even be able to help trouble shoot on my car :(

Thanks Lobo...anyone else with this experience?

Since your Box is still under warranty, why are you so opposed to having the dealer fix it?

boxsternut 06-21-2010 03:44 PM

I'm not...just haven't had time to get there yet and always like to be informed before I step into the 'shady zone' of the dealer.

PSM is your stability management system, so a failure would have to be the failure of one of the wheel speed sensors, which would also affect your ABS brake system, or something in the computer that is monitoring wheel speeds.
Because of everything this system can do, like apply braking to one or more wheel/s, independent of the brake pedal, I would say it is more serious than something you can "get to" when you have the time.

Did you recently have the battery disconnected? This will give you a PSM error message for the first couple minutes of driving.

boxsternut 06-22-2010 04:19 AM

Haven't disconnected battery at all, I use a maintainer over the winter. I did remove the wheels to clean rims and reinstalled, but that was in April. Thanks for the additional info on the PSM Quickurt. After my vacation, I plan on getting it into the dealer!

When did the fault show up, right after cleaning the wheels?

boxsternut 06-22-2010 06:01 AM

The PSM failure light came on two months after having the wheels off, so it doesn't seem related. It only comes on at low speed, usually while turning the wheels sharply, forward or in reverse.

See "psm light coming on " . Mine was the brakelight switch. Cheers
