I've seen them go for $700-$1000 on craigslist and eBay, depending on condition and whether repainting to match one's car.

I paid $900, but it had some scratches. I would say a price anywhere between $800-1400 is fair depending on color, condition, and location.

$100? That made me laugh.
I planned on repainting my top due to the scratches, and ended up not doing it because the best quote I got was $400.

Was it you're Boxster you repainted for $250?
A good paint job for the entire car cost about $3-4k, but I wish repainting the top was only a $100.

I got my hardtop painted for $350. It has many chips in it already (about 14 months later). Since it was red, and is now black, they are very visible. A good paint job is going to cost you a lot. You would not believe how time consuming it is to remove all the trim, and put it back on. I did it myself, and it took forever, and was a PITA. I'd be hard pressed to do it again, but then again, I don't know how many shops I'd trust to do it right.

Same thing happened to my hardtop actually- they did a horrible job. The integrity of the top is still in excellent shape though.

My hardtop is still for sale, but I keep telling myself to keep it for winter usage.

I bought my hardtop for $1200 a year or so back. I drove the car a few hundred miles to pick it up with factory paint to match my car's color (Basalt Black Metallic). Yes, I think it matters.

I would probably sell the hardtop today for the same.

If you buy a hardtop, you need to make sure the top includes the interior trim pieces and that the car is fitted with the spin locks to mount it.
