Spark plugs

What plugs to you guys use in your Boxster? I saw in the manual that Porsche recommends the NGK or Bosch, but also says check for the latest recommendations. So what do you guys use? I'll probably go with a stock plug rather than something fancy like iridium because I'm guessing the bang (pun intended) for the buck doesn't justify those fancy plugs.

I went with the regular Bosch, and they seem to work just fine, plus they are much less expensive than the Beru. I used a bit of anti-seize paste on the threads and changed the tubes and o-rings as well, but I could have gotten away with just changing the o-rings.

After much reading, I came to believe that the only advantage to platinum was longevity and with them comes the possibility of chunks breaking off and bouncing around in the combustion chamber, which didn't sound like something i wanted to have happen.

Yep - OEM are just fine. Little or no benefit to the more exotic and heavily marketed plugs, but as mentioned, there have been reported issues with them.

IMHO, longevity in a spark plug is a false saving. You should pull your plugs regularly as they are a good indicator of overall engine health, and you want to check the 'O' rings periodically too. Using ultra long-life plugs has a tendency to cause owners to ignore them for too long.

Cheers!

I was advised today regardless of what plug you're using to avoid platinum plugs and stick with copper plugs since copper is a better conductor of electricity and will give you better power and throttle response.

plug gap?

Where do I find the recommended gap for plugs for my 00' S? Anyone have a recommendation of a good place to order the sleeves, O-rings and plugs?

Many thanks,
Don

I'd guess PelicanParts. That's where I'm going to get mine.

Accordingly to Bentley, the gap is 1.6mm +/- .05mm
