engine cover carpet
Has anyone gotten rid of their engine cover carpet and done something nicer?
|
What exactly is "nicer?" Considering you don't see (or feel) the carpet, what's the point? The Cayman guys have done clear Lexan to replace the cover, and foregone the carpet, but even then, these aren't exactly sexy engines to look at, so again, what's the point?

As a kid, I re-carpeted a lot of used cars. the Boxster engine cover has some specific contours and foam core that would make re carpeting a daunting task with little return.

I have seen the engine cover carpet redone in leather with some colored stitching to match the color scheme of the car
|
Side note,
I remove the engine cover carpet for track days and it gets a LOT hotter inside the cabin. Unbearably hot on 90F+ days. The stock cover isn't pretty but it is effective at keeping heat out of the cabin. |
Wow....you take the carpet off and then re-install it? Wouldn't be very painfull........yes I image it would be a good insulator. How is this removal and installation done?
I have a red interior so....the red engine carpet cover carpet is fading. I see mine everyday; its right beneath the rear window?? I thinking about changing it to black colour...perhaps a more durable black carpet like you could in British sports cars..once upon a time. Can this be done? |
hey is that shag on the inside of a Lambo Muria.....criminal!
The leather might look good actually.....anybody know where to get piece of the red Porsche leather interior? |

ahhhh you are just removing the engine cover as a whole
......carpet off of cover would be a different story |

I'll sell you mine...
I removed the rear storage box and the 2 carpet / insulation pieces (one on top and one in front of the engine). that was like 40 lbs of stuff! I'm doing it to lighten the car (along with lighter wheels, battery, seats, and more)...for better overall performance, especially at the track.
I'm considering removing all the interior carpet now...and maybe even the A/C and stereo. who knows, maybe by next year I'll have a true 'spyder' with no windows or top either. oh, mine's black. |
The engine cover carpet (black) in my Boxster is fading a bit and I'd like to either restore it's "blackness" or replace it with new carpet. Does anyone have sources or suggestions?......thanks
