bent rim
 

Looks like I need to find what seems to be a 17"x9" factory 2002 rim for the rear of my boxster. put new tires on the rear and one of the rims is out of round pretty bad. are there after market look alike rims out there anywhere? or maybe a used factory rim source?

Look around your area to see if there is a shop that repairs rims. I had a bent rim on my car when I bought it and had it fixed for under $150. Now it rides perfect and was much easier and cheaper than buying new rims. Most shops that repair rims are used to working on highline cars so they shouldn't have a problem rounding out your rim. Because who is going to fix a bent rim on a Kia? No one because the rims are so cheap to just have replaced anyway. So most of these places only really ever see BMW, MB, Lexus, Porsche, etc.

Thanks, I'll look into that. it was visible on the machine while rotating. seems like it said 3.5 but I'm not sure if that was oz of weight or what.

I dont know what that means either, but my wheel had a pretty severe wobble to it, and i found a guy that my mechanic recommended and he was able to fix it. So I wouldn't worry about sourcing out new rims until you have at least tried having the damaged one repaired. Im sure there has to be someone around your area that can help you out. found a place here that can repair bent rims. I'll give them a try. thanks again. I hadn't thought of trying to get it fixed. another boxster forum save...

the rim is fixed and man, with the new rubber on the rear and round rim this baby is rolling quite well. I wondered wht that vibration was and it's nice that it's gone.

For future reference, how did you go about finding somebody to fix a bent rim?

I looked under "wheels" in the yellow pages. the place is called "Wheel Fix it" that I used. it's a common thing now with these guys running 22" plus rims with low profile tires. They had a pile of rims there to work on. I'm sure larger cities would have a similar place.

They sell refinished wheels outright, on exchange, or will repair your wheel.

However, if you're looking for one slightly used that matches the patina of your existing wheels, craigslist, eBay, and specialty Porsche dismantlers such as Oklahoma Foreign are good sources. I've also used http://www.car-part.com to search dismantlers nationwide.

Great to hear...I have trouble keeping mine from getting damaged :D
