How to get inside the headlight assembly?
 

Hi,
Does anyone know how to get inside the headlight assembly?

I have a clear headlight with burn marks inside. I want to open it.
Normally you sould heat it up and it will open, at least that how it worked for lexus headlights.

I tried it and it dodn'y work for boxster.

Are there any hidden screws that hold it together? there are 2 screws that hold rubber to the assembly..but they don't seem to be going deep enough to hold the assembly.

Any info is greatly appreciated, I's really want to restore it rather than selling as broken item:)

heat for about 15 min at 320 and pry slowly... you won't be able to take the burnt stuff out unless you had a replacement lens to put into it...

So it's 320.. won't it damage the plastic? for lexus headlamp 250 was enough..
Do you know where to get a replacement lens? it should be much cheaper then whole assembly..

350degF for 15min? your glass bulb will prolly be melted.

I am new to this forum and what drives me nuts is the way the post are arranged. This is the first time I have ever seen post #1 is at the bottom of the screen. whats the remedy?

There is was threaded view.. but it's not the same.
Funny thing if you're not logged in, forum is in right order, after you're logged in.. it's screwed.

Glass melting point is at 1400+ Celsius.. 350F won't damage it.. I'm nore concerned about plastic

Go to DISPLAY MODES, and then click on HYBRID MODE.

Voila!

HYBRID mode is NOT the same.

it shows threaded view ie if someone posts reply to a post not to a thread you will NOT see it unless you select that thread!

Question is: why if I'm not logged in is shows OK the moment you log in it's newest first

I use Linear - Oldest first under Thread Display

How do you change to linear older first?

I looked all over the page and cannot find it. Under Display modes on the right I see linear. Where is "older first?"

On main page (not in a thread) go to "quick links"-> Edit Options

scroll down, under thread display mode choose "Linear older first"

Another mystery is solved!

But to answer your question, I don't think you can buy just a lens. Heck, you can't even buy the rubber seal separately from Porsche, which is absolutely ludicrous. Your rubber seal rots out after 10 years and you are supposed to buy a whole new headlight assembly if you want to replace it. Fortunately, some of the disassemblers will sell the seal separately, but they usually also know the value of what they have and you end up paying about $60 for a used strip of rubber. All part of the joy of owning the world's greatest car.

after about 10 mins you want to check it by trying to pry it with a large flat head.. if its still tight then throw it for another 5 min.... once you have one side pried out all you'll need to do is pull slowly to remove the outside lens... i really don't think you can buy the lens separately.. the lens it removable though as i took a light apart... i actually might have one clear lens sitting around...
