Mobil 1 5W-40 Tubo Diesel Oil

Is Mobil 1 5 W-40 Turbo Diesel Oil a Porsche aproved ? I need to change the oil in my Boxster and have read many of the forum threads dealing with oil. I can find very little information about this particular oil. Any help would be appreciated.

I would say the quick answer is NO. I was told to not use 5W anything in a boxster. Much less diesel oil.

Why would you even consider this? the 80$ for good oil is much less than a new motor.

use redline, royal purple, motul, or even mobil 1 if you have to. Use the recommened weight for your location. I would call a local dealship and see what weight they use. I use 0W40 royal purple for the hot texas temp. I order it from Jegs online, and it is at my door in 2 days. You own an expensive car with a motor that costs big money to fix or replace. It is foolish to try to save money on oil, tires, or brakes.

At least you live close to Jake Raby, you will need him to fix your boxster when you burn up your engine.

I don't know a lot about oil, but if the container says "Turbo" and "Diesel" and my car is a naturally aspirated petrol engine, I would probably use a different oil.

My guess is you haven't read this:

http://www.lnengineering.com/oil.html

I would not use 0W40 period, let alone Mobil 1.

Delvac1 not mobil1

for years the only oil available from mobil1 in a 5w40 (in north america) was delvac1 5w40. it is diesel and gasoline engine rated . better still it was not energy saving rated, and at one time still had the higher levels of antiwear desired for good camshaft life.

i have a 99 passat 1.8T that ran exclusively on it for 250,000 km,

the mobil1 5w40 diesel rated oil may be okay, but you need to do some of your own homework and start reading and comparing what oils are recommended and what the oil of choice is offering , lastly

please lets not make blanket statements about something without checking first... the mobil1 diesel 5w40 may be nor in tune with what a porsche needs ....

i'm looking for a3 ratings

I am sorry I made a mistake, I was told never use 10W anything rather than 5W. Sorry for confusion.
Also i agree mobil 1 is not the best. I use royal purple.
