Cigarrete lighter replacement question

Is there a way to install a bigger (deeper) cigarette lighter in a boxster?

I got my zune in the car.. and surprize surprize.. the charger is too big for my lighter..
It only goes in by half length.. and falls down if I accelerate or brake.

Is there a way to install a deeper lighter? does anyone have same problem?

Thanks
Sasha

By changing out your lighter it seems like you're doing things backward. Your Zune probably uses a universal lighter adaptor. Why not try to find another one that's not so deep? I bet Radio Shack's got a number to choose from. This seems like the path of least resistance.

The new lighter socket is actually smaller in diameter than the old original versions. I installed the newer one and a number of my plugs can no longer fit into it. Regret even changing it out.

Boxsters are for "Zoom", not "Zune"...

Sorry, couldn't resist.

I just couldn't resist P logo on it:) I'll get an aftermarket charger and make it work

PS: Zoom Zoom is Mazda...
Boxster is a short name for "Uncontrolled Rapid Acceleration"

that's toyota.

i just picked up a belkin usb adapter for my iphone (it'll work with anything that plugs in via usb for charging) because i left my charger at a hotel in arkansas. the awesome thing is it's a shorty adapter (they call it micro) so it fits perfectly and doesn't fall out. why can't they all be like that?

(compared to the gps charger)

Sasha, would you be able to send me the actual lighter unit (the part that has the coils) if you aren't going to be using it? I brought my car to the dealership and they must have lost my original one. I have a 2000 boxster but I don't know if yours will fit. Obviously, if you are able to do this for me, I will pay for shipping. What year do you have? It looks like from the link posted in this thread, the '97 to '01 are compatible.

I sure can, just want to warn you.. lighter is working for 2 out of three times:)
PM me your address and after I replaced mine I'll send it to you don't worry about shipping.. it should be a couple of dollars anyway.

I have a 2000 boxster and plan lot's of projects to do:)
Also it might take me a while to change it.. my wife is 9 month pregnant.. so if baby comes before lighter replacement... it may take me a while to replace it.

Thanks
Sasha

PS: "Uncontrolled Rapid Acceleration" on Toyota is a big problem, on Boxster it's a feature!

I got the same problem. The socket is just too shallow.

Trey T 04-26-2010 04:51 PM

apparently the 02+ have a new one w/ deeper socket. Is there a story behind this or is it purely a bad design?

Is there an online site to order porsche besides dc automotive? I keep hearing sunset porsche but it came up nothing. any recommendation?
