Fuel tank will not fill up all the way. Gas Pump automatically stops at 3/4?? :(

Hi All,

I have an '01 986 2.7L with 53k miles.

This happened to me before but it seems like it is getting worse.

When ever I fill up my gas tank, it fills 3/4 and then it shuts off the pump. Is there an easy fix to this? Or do I have to replace the fuel float?

Also, my car is taking longer and longer to start. Last time it took like a full 3 seconds cranking from the starter before it started. And its not even that cold in Southern California! Could it be the Oil Air seperator?

are you always going to the same gas station?

There is some kind of canister...I believe it's the carbon canister behind the right front plastic fender well. I understand this can cause problems similar to yours.

The symptoms you describe sound like a collapsed fill/vent tube on the stalk inside the fuel tank. The actual fix is pretty simple but getting to the stalk is tiresome and moderately dangerous because of working around the fuel and fuel vapors.

Use the search function... this has been covered many times.

Cheers!
