Low Temp Thermostat Question

With the low temp thermostat what temparature does the car run at when fully warmed up ?

I'm in the tropics, so my car's temp may be on the higher side (??)

For "normal" non-spirited travelling, the temperature is slightly more than 80 degrees C (180 degree F mark ??)

For "spirited" driving, the temperatur is maybe less a touch less than 90 degrees C or at most 90 (esp heavy load eg uphill or constant redline) which is probably the same with or without the low temp thermostat. Makes sense as all the thermostat does is to open earlier, it doesn't increase overall cooling power. But for non-spirited drives, it does lower the temp slightly.

Mine runs dead on 180 highway driving or any type driving when the ambient temperature is less than 80F. When it's hot (upper 80s) in stop and go driving I'll get up to ~185-190. Before putting the low temp thermostat in I ran about 190 normally to 205 on hot days, all numbers according to the stock temp gauge. The biggest difference I've noticed is that the new thermostat reaches its operating temp and stays, whereas the original seemed to fluctuate a lot more. That could just be my car, but the 996 I had acted the same way and actually ran a bit hotter than the Boxster. I do recall that the MY97 986 I had ran cooler than my 996 as well.

In addition to what the others stated, once the t-stat is open, it will remain fully open, where the stock unit will attempt to keep the temps around the factory 205-210 range. The low temp starts to open at 160 and will keep the car in the 180-185 degree range, some 20-25 degrees cooler than stock. Lower coolant temp=lower oil temps, which is a must on these cars. I replaced mine a year and a half ago and am very pleased.
