New Battery Time: 2001 Base with Trip

Guys, As spring arrives, I'm looking for a new battery for my 2001/Base with a Triptronic. Would certainly value and recommendations.

Car is stored in the winter (which takes a toll).

Thoughts? Experience? Be very helpful if folks had specific model numbers that did/didn't work well for them.

Is there really a difference between what I need for a Trip vs. a Standard transmission.

Thanks!

Optima 34R - costs 2x but lasts more than 2x longer. I've totally drained a ten year old Optima a few times and it still works great.

I'll never buy a different battery.

When you purchase your new battery, be sure to also buy a "battery maintainer". This is NOT a trickle charger, but a very low voltage device that keeps your battery at a safely charged level, avoiding almost all problems with low or dead batteries.

There are numerous makes and models; most for less than $50 (you don't need a fancy one with the Porsche name on it). I have two "Battery Tender, Jr" models which I purchased for $24.95 ea and they work terrific.

There are several to choose from. Look at this link: http://sites.google.com/site/mikefocke2/batteries

Just so you know, you tranny is called a Tiptronic, not Triptronic.
