Cyclo Polisher / Buffer
 

I saw one of these being used on an automotive show a couple of weeks back. They are the two head aluminum cased units and the results shown were pretty impressive. I looked them up online and they're pricey, has anyone around here used one of these? What do you think? Are they worth the money or is there a better alternative? Thanks.....Mark.

Search on "Porter Cable" and you will find several threads describing its use. You can also find videos on YouTube.

I have not used the cyclo polisher you show, so I cannot comment about it. The Porter Cable does a good job for me. I can wax my Boxster in about two hours with it. It is a well made tool that is not tiring to use.

The cyclo polisher may be fine, but it is a lot more expensive.

Yeah. I use a Porter Cable 7424 also. It rocks. It's virtually impossible to burn your paint using that.

Check out the packages this guy has, sometimes his sales are incredible. I just picked up a porter cable I've yet to try, can't wait.. If you look on the right side of this link you will see a Sonus kit that I believe is the best package deal I've ever seen, that's one of the reasons I snagged it. $195.00 and you have everything you need, I've used Sonus products, they are from Germany, I find them to be excellent.

Thanks again guys. Porter Cable it is then, the price is a bit more palatable also. I had been using a Wen unit that my father bought / used in the 70's, it was built like a tank and nearly weighed as much, it finally gave up the ghost a couple a years ago. I'm not very fanatical about polishing / waxing cars but in working on the Boxster in the past few days I've noticed alot of fine scratches in the clear coat, time to do something about it. :cheers:

Done ordered the kit eightsandaces recommended, it is the XP. The wifey even found a free shipping code. :dance:

+1 on the Porter-Cable, though I'm a bit late to the party. I've used mine for the last several years and even our top PCA concours guy (National PCA Judge and competitor) swears by it.

I think the main benefit of the Cyclo is that it transmits less vibration to your wrists. I picked one up used, and they are built like a tank! I haven't actually used it on my Boxster yet, but did test it out on my Mazda, and even used it to clean a problem area of my kitchen floor. :)

the cyclo is probably the best in terms of speed of results and ease of use.
I use the PC which is not as good but not as expensive either. At setting 5 for de-swirling it produces a great deal of vibration which might make your forearms numb since you have to move very slowly in overlapping L patterns. on the hood and other horizontal surfaces its not as bad because you let it settle on its own weight. and by the way ALWAYS hold the pc by the handle, its heavy and will dent your car easy if you drop it. also, you'lll need the velcro backing plate (if you don't buy the new xp) which doesn't come with the unit and white and yello pads. white for cleaning, yellow for cutting. grey pads are for waxing.

p.s.
I picked up a portable Bissel steamer at Costco for about $60 which does a decent job for cleaning matts and carpeting. its called the gre en cleaner or something. I bought it for the house but it does the job in the boxster.
