MAF crossover
After cleaning the MAF on the Boxster I discovered that it is the same MAF used on Land Rover Bosch 4.0L and 4.6L V8s.
Surprisingly, we beat the crap out of them in the Rovers and they seldom have problems like they do in the Porsche engines. The software parameters must be much narrower in the 986 than in the V8 ECUs. |
I just cleaned my MAF yesterday on my 01 Boxster, and can't believe how easy it was to pull out. I can't believe dealers charge upwards of $900 to replace them, when it literally is just a matter of opening your engine cover and undoing 2 tamper proof torx screws.

With all the dead/dying Discovery 2 and Range Rovers out there, I am sure you could pick one up from the junk yard for twenty bucks.

Given the notoriously poor reliability of MAFs in our cars it would seem to be false economy to take a chance on used. That's my feeling on most anything electrical that's critical to safe, reliable operation. |
