Brake caliper coating is peeling! Any advice?
There seems to be a protective coating (clearcoat?) on my 01 Boxster S brake calipers and it is now bubbling and peeling on both passenger side calipers. I didn't even know that the calipers had a protective coating! I can only guess that some corrosive liquid splashed on them. The red paint underneath looks good, it's just the coating that is the problem.
Has anyone seen this before? Any suggestions? K80Kid 01 Boxster S |
It's just the way it is, it's not a protective coating but a layer of clear coat.
You can powder coat the calipers but that'll require a rebuild. If you want to do it cheap just sand it down and get a caliper paint kit and do the job yourself in a warm afternoon. |
Is there a way to remove the clearcoat and leave the paint untouched?

Lightly wet sand the affected areas where the peeling has occured and clean well. Re-spray with clear coat and you'll be fine. No need to redo the caliper paint if it's just the clear peeling (likely from brake fluid or other contamination).
