Headlight mod to make early 2000 headlights look like current models?
Hi,
I'm going to buy a Porsche Boxter
I could save a little money if I buy a used one but there's only one thing that bothers me about the older models... the headlights.
I've always hated they way the headlights in the early 2000s, like an eye with a tear duct, I know recently they have moved back to the classic, oval look.
Doea anyone know if there was an aftermarket mod or hack that could make those old tead ducts go away? If so Ill go get myself a used Boxster, otherwise I'll visit the dealership.
Thanks.

With enough money, just about anything is possible, but realistically, no- you'd have to change your fenders/bumper to accomodate the 2005+ headlights in your pre-05 Boxster. From 97-05, all Boxsters had those teardrop shaped headlights..some with amber turn signals which some liken to an egg yolk, while the newer ones had smoked lenses, but all still had that tear duct you're referring to.
If you hate that look, then you should buy a 2005+ model yr car.

You can get the bumper fairly cheap, but it came as an assembly that included the rest of the car!!

Doesn't anyone make a tasteful, stock-looking 986-to-987 front conversion? The scoops [and even the Cayman eyeglasses-type fog lights] are too ricey for me.
With a few custom-made parts, it shouldn't be necessary to change the fenders. Headlights and a bumper cover with 987-boxster type fog lights [as on quickurt's car, below] would do it! There would be a lot of demand for it, thousands of kits could be sold.

HI HO SILVER, AWAY!!!!!!!!!!
HAHAHAHAHA!!!
Yeah most conversions look cheesy, very few are acceptable. The best thing I've seen is the RUF turbo bumper for the 986, looks really good but way expensive.
For the cost of doing the 987 conversion, you could just buy a 987 instead of a 986 as the other guys have said. If you havent bought a car yet and you really want the 987 look, its way better to go that route, might even be able to find one with a warranty left!!
