Has anyone seen or tried one of these, by any chance?

I'm either going to get a couple of those or do the VW slim cupholder. Would I be required to have a double din stereo to mount the VW cup holders?
---

The VW cup holders are not a perfect fit, in that they are not designed to fit the Boxster frame with all the fittings and screws lined up. Having said that, it fits very snugly without much modifications. Yes, you will need to fit a double DIN stereo with it, which, again by chance, turns out to fill the entire opening nicely with the cup holders, with simple modifications.

Neither is a "designed to fit", but rather "happen to fit" (with slight modding).

I made up a cup holder for the 914 several years ago. The seats sit a lot lower in the 914 and the reach is pretty natural. I tried it in the Boxster, and works pretty well. It's made from two ABS plumbing parts from Home Depot. The base is pretty heavy and keep the whole thing from tipping over. Painted the ABS with Plastic Furniture Paint and added a Boxster logo by softening with a heat gun.

Not as slick as the dash installs, but works for now.
