Cup Holder Source--see pic
I came across this pic of a cup holder; the link attached to it changed. Was wondering where these are available, and wondering if anyone used this cup holder---opinions ?

Never seen that one. Nice integrated look. I think I've tried every cup holder commonly on offer. All had some drawbacks. I ended up with the first one listed here on Eagle Day ... http://www.eagleday.com/inac1.html
For me the has been the best of many imperfect options.

If you want to add a double DIN GPS at the same time, this might be of help:

That cupholder was made by a company called Sport Car Solutions, which is now Roadster Solutions. They no longer make it and considering they sold so few, I have never seen one for sale and doubt any will ever be for sale used, so don't get you hopes up. I tried emailing the company to see if the still had one somewhere, but they didn't.
I settled for the Ultimate Cupholder, and can vouch for it being a great solution.

No, this is the Ultimate Cupholder:

I have one too, and like it. But I put mine on the passenger side
Easy to install and remove. Push it in, pull it out

Nice, thanks for the link.
I'm either going to get a couple of those or do the VW slim cupholder. Would I be required to have a double din stereo to mount the VW cup holders?

The VW cup holders are not a perfect fit, in that they are not designed to fit the Boxster frame with all the fittings and screws lined up. Having said that, it fits very snugly without much modifications. Yes, you will need to fit a double DIN stereo with it, which, again by chance, turns out to fill the entire opening nicely with the cup holders, with simple modifications.
Neither is a "designed to fit", but rather "happen to fit" (with slight modding).

I made up a cup holder for the 914 several years ago. The seats sit a lot lower in the 914 and the reach is pretty natural. I tried it in the Boxster, and works pretty well. It's made from two ABS plumbing parts from Home Depot. The base is pretty heavy and keep the whole thing from tipping over. Painted the ABS with Plastic Furniture Paint and added a Boxster logo by softening with a heat gun.
Not as slick as the dash installs, but works for now.
