Instructions for removal of CDR Becker

I lost my owners manuel and i can't seem to find it on search, can someone link me or send me instructions on how to do this? My radio is cutting in and out and I'm certain the connection points being dirty is the culprit. Thanks!

I haven't taken one out for awhile, but as I recall it's pretty simple. Remove the face plate. Slide the "removal tools" in on each side and the unit slilps out. If you don't have the tools, they're available on Ebay pretty cheap (and probably Sun Coast, etc.)

BoxsterLewis 11-23-2009 11:38 AM

Oh thanks, that does sound easy! How do i remove the faceplate?

schnellman 11-23-2009 11:42 AM

The removal keys are in fact available at Sun Coast. The face plate pops off when you push the button on the face plate. Mine's a tiny rectangular button on the right side (with no label on it.)

Oh ok, does your faceplate come off completely? Mine just angles forward to let the cd in and out. I have the CDR-220. Thanks!

As with some other items Porsche, the keys are the same as VW and can be had on ebay cheaper than I'll bet a Pcar part is.

My face plate comes off, and in fact the car came with a little plastic box with "Becker" on the lid to put the face plate in. Behind the face plate are big bright red letters saying "SECURITY."

Do the keys look like the attached pic? Wow mine definitely doesn't come all the way off after pushing the button. Does anyone know if all you have to do is push the button and insert the keys on a CDR-220?

Sorry attached now.

You push the button and it folds down. Then there is a way to remove it. I do not fully recall and my Porsche is 1000 miles away so I can't help you. I had mine off about 2 months ago so I could install an iPod cable. Hope this helps.

I do not think you can slide out the radio without removing the little faceplate. And the picture you posted it the correct keys.

Didn't have to remove the faceplate to remove my radio from the car (CDR-220). The keys you show are correct; just insert and pull the radio out.

It comes off. After you open it, pull the face off the head unit. It shouldn't take much force.

You do not need to remove the faceplate to remove the radio. The faceplate does not appear to come off, however it you flip it down and pull it toward you it will pop out. My Boxster came with a leather sleeve to put it in.
It isn't very hard, but can take a little while to get back in.

Before pulling the radio, you should try cleaning the connection points between the front flap and the main body.

BoxsterLewis 11-24-2009 05:03 AM

I have cleaned those and the reason I want the keys is because there are other connection points to clean back there right?? I cleaned the front gold connection points but my radio still is iffy cutting in and out.

clickman 11-24-2009 07:49 AM

IMHO the push-on connection at the back of the unit is not your problem. Unless there's a loose connection. But hard to see how that could develop with no movement of the wires behind the unit...

BoxsterLewis 11-24-2009 08:01 AM

Sometimes when I hit a bump the radio cuts out which leads me to believe thats the issue, I will let you know as i just ordered the keys :)

IIRC there have been issues with the antenna connection in the right pillar.

I was in there playing with it on my car once, in a failed attempt to improve the cruddy reception from the window wire antenna.

You might want to do a search
