New Boxster owner,,,whining sound help,,
Hi all, iam a new member and have recenlty bought a PB 2.5, but i have just noticed a whining noise, coming from the engine, the sound whines up and down i time with the engine revs.......... anyone any ideas...
thanks |
The first thing I would do is check the belt tension. If that appears to be ok I would loosen the belt off and check all the pulleys for worn bearings.
Apparently if the water pump bearing gets a wobble to it it can seriously damage the engine. I am sure someone on here with more experience will chime in for you. |
does it make the sound when in gear and/or in neutral?

Whine, whine maybe the swine flu
Typically a whine comes from a belt...a oem replacement can cause it, because it does not mesh with the groves in the areas where it makes contact...water pump, ac unit, power steering. Now sometimes those units can be ready to fail and cause the whine. Have you checked the power steering fluid level and be sure you purchase the Porsche required brand here or you will be sorry...refill is (hee, hee...under the hood). To further check and isolate it...get a mechanics stethoscope from your local auto parts store. Have someone race the engine up and down while you listen for the point that you hear the whining. Good luck:cheers:

You can also just use a length of hose, hold one end up to your ear and the other to what you want to listen to.
If you haven't already, you'll need to learn how to remove the top & front engine covers. -james |
Sorted
Thanks guys,
After carefully working out how to remove the hood and top of the engine bay, i found the chamber to be totally empty. Filled up and now back to normal. Thanks again |
