I think I will be doing everything myself from now on, where possible.....good on you

I went to Autoselect in Newmarket....wayout there at the end of the 404!

so I am taking that is not a -ve in front of the 25C yes???? yes well hard to say; this summer was cold!

I have been taking my Boxster to AutoSelect in Newmarket for 5 years now.

Reasonable and family business. I have had only good experiences with them.

PHAFF Tunning is too expensive. Every quote that I received was 50% more, which made no sense. Oil change double the price. Suspension mods, Phaff tunning always quoted double the price. 10% to 15% I don't mind, but 50% is
insane and such a scam.

Downtown or Woodbridge - I find them very hard to work with and to build a relationship with is not easy. They all seem to know it all... but guess what I don't. Sometimes you just want to know whats wrong... I don't like
to pay $150 to find out whats wrong....

Jaykay...it IS a -ve in front of the 25C. It's below in F as well. That's why I'm contemplating switching to 5W40. Will have to keep Autoselect in mind if I need something done that I can't do. Newmarket is only 1/2 hour drive for me in Caledon.

This is the wording directly from our owner's manual (I have it on PDF).

Engine Oil Recommendation
Recommended oil viscosity ranges dependent on ambient temperatures
Ambient temperature seasonal SAE Viscosity Range engine oils
generally above -13°F (-25°C ) SAE 0W-40, 5W-40, 5W-50 approved by Porsche
generally below -13°F (-25°C ) SAE 0W-40 approved by Porsche

The 'generally below-13F(-25C)' is the interesting point. Although it does list above -13F the three viscosities, it makes the special note regarding 0W40 for the lower general temperature. We store for the winter and operate in the warmer months, so I can't see why 5W-40 can't be used.

Wow I am going to ask Porsche about this one. Why on earth are service shops and the dealer keep putting in 0W???? I would think this would be way too low on the viscosity index for anybody but a winter driver. I am a bit freaked out as I have always used 0W..

I will get a manual for myself!

Thanks...

One reason might be that 0W40 is harder to find and more expensive...more people might just opt for the dealer to do the service!!!!$$$$$

it seems that the intent of lightweight oil was to reduce lifter noise on start-up........
