Does this crash look expensive??
I was stationary at a set of traffic lights yesterday & this idiot ran the red light in the opposite direction, lost control & hit our Boxster. He hit the vehicle a glancing blow and the impact site is the dent in the plastic bumper cover just below the right hand headlight. Could this possibly of damaged the chassis rails or anything major?
My insurance policy states "choice of repairer"so I can take it to who I want.
I have had the car for 6 weeks & it only gets taken out on weekends when it is not raining.
The damage I can see is.
Radiator, Air con condensor, guard, bumper cover, headlight,bumper bar.
I am sure there are numerous other parts I have not thought of.
We have two factory approved repairers here in Sydney, Australia.
I am guessing $10K damage.
I have priced the known parts at $3300 USD from one of the US suppliers.

Yes it does and don't let them nickel and dime you over the repair. Have a Porsche certified alignment and frame specialist check the car out. Your $10K estimate is reasonable.

Sorry to see that.
My car is in the shop with almost the SAME EXACT DAMAGE...Mine is looking to be repaired around 13k...

Value of Boxsters in Australia is considerably different than US; I wouldn't be quick to say it's a total loss. You may be lucky that the damage is repairable, but nothing on these cars is cheap. Definately have the car looked at for trueness of the suspension points since it's unibody...no "chassis" to speak of.
If the points are true and the car can be properly aligned, it should be repairable.

No, it will not be write off. The car is insured for $50K. The value of these vehicles over here is much higher than in the USA.
Even high mileage 1998 130,000km vehicles are selling privately for $27K.
Went to the panel beaters yesterday. No frame damage. The only panel that will not unbolt that needs replacing is the front radiator support panel.
I feel confident after seeing a couple of the Ferraris & Porsches they are repairing that I will get a top job done.

if the car is NOT totalled, and they repair it:
upgrade the front bumper. too bad you didn't get a hammer out and smash your headlights...you could have scored some litronics too.. hahahahaha.
maybve you can put an upgraded bumper on it and make it look even better?

The car has been approved for repair.
The quote is $15K AUD.
Lucky the guy has insurance.

Well, finally got the car back two weeks ago.
Total repair cost...$27,189.00. Ouch. Lucky the guy was insured.
The extra cost over the original quote of $15k was because when the front was stripped down they found damage to both front rails. There was also a kink in the floor pan forward of the spare wheel mount.
Car drives perfectly and the repair quality is nbr 1.
These guys send their panel beaters over to Ferrari, Porsche etc to learn repair techniques for exclusive vehicles. They do not repair Ford, Toyota etc.
I will post some photos of the repair at a later date.

$27K!!! That's about $24K USD.  I'm sure you're really glad you got your car back.
I know Boxsters are more expensive in Australia but that repair cost is what we'd pay for a decent 987. What year is your car?

Your steering wheel is on the wrong side, and the laws make it almost impossible to do....
The Australian council taxes the daylights out of luxury cars to discourage the purchase of such gaudy cars. The dealers can't even advertise the top speed.
