Boxster clear engine cover

I remember seeing this advertised years ago, it's a clear cover you can get for the engine.
Anyone know about this? I can't find who was selling these.
Thanks

so the whole thing would be clear - and you could see the motor from outside the car? might be interesting. never heard of that.

then we could all start spending money on painted dress up engine bay parts! :)

Here's what someone did on they Cayman. Looks pretty cool. I haven't seen one on a Boxster but that doesn't mean it isn't out there.

And here's a DIY for the Cayman if you are so inclined to try it out on the Boxster.

The "Adrenalizer". Their website seems to be defunct, not sure about the product.

Trouble is this is great on a Cayman as you have that big glass hatch, but on a Boxster what's the point? You would barely see it with the roof up and it is covered when the roofs down. If you had one of those Zein tops then I could see having one.

Sobering reminder: Just remember that the primary purpose of the engine cover is a firewall between you and the most likely point of combustion. Make sure that whatever you choose still serves that purpose well.

Agreed! + all you'd see is a cheap plastic air plenum with 'Porsche' stamped on it... WOW! And all for the unbelievably low price of just $375.00 + s/h ... this offer not available in stores (wonder why?).

Save your money and buy some tires instead!

Only way I could see this being of any value on a Boxster is if you either had a Zeintop or permanently removed the soft top. Neither of those options are terribly high on my priority list....

ditto - this is very cool looking on the cayman and totally pointless on a Boxster.

maybe if you had some kind of showcase boxster with the top mechanism removed...full time open cockpit - then you could incorporate something like this into the "look" of the car, but on a daily driver or weekend boxster where you have the convertible top.... total waste of money.

on a car like mine that is a weekend toy - when the car is out of the garage and being driven the top is down - and this would be pointless anyway.

very cool IDEA though! i especially like the one with the LEDs inside to light it up...cool cool cool.

That would mean I would have to remove my rear speaker box, and if I do that, the stereo will sound like crapola, so that's a no no.

Lil bastard 10-31-2009 08:27 AM

I don't think it's cool at all. I mean Ferrari was the first to expose the engine, all others are merely followers (or Poseurs).

And, it's not like you're looking at any beautifully crafted CNC'd billet valve covers and cast alloy (or CF) intake from Marranello - it's a thermo-injected plastic piece.

LEDs? That's about as classy as a Niagra Falls Honeymoon Suite! Just add a set of 'Street Glows' and you're all set!

Nope, IMHO, it just cheapens the car, while not saying anything particularly complimentary about it's owner in the process.

Well the guy with the Cayman at least has an X51 3.8 in there....lil better to look at but still a far cry from what you see under the glass in a Ferrari.

Lordblood 11-01-2009 06:54 PM

That doesn't sound like a good idea to me. You are already extremely close to the engine as is, all that is separating you from it is the rubber insulation. If you remove that, it makes things more hotter, noisier, and potentially more dangerous.

And as someone mentioned, what's the point? Top up it's like trying to look through a mailbox, and top down the engine is covered by the roof.
