2002 Head Lights Bulbs
I have a 2002 Porsche Boxster and I would live to replace just the OEM bulbs to something that is not so orange but more white. I do not want to do any upgrades other than switching out the bulbs. Can anyone recommend what a very good replacement bulb I should look for.
Thanks for any suggestions. Charlie |
I like the Sylvania Silverstar Ultra bulbs. I replaced my two high and two low beam bulbs. Could have also replace the fog light bulbs as well but opted against it to save a little green. The color is clearly whiter than original, and with many hours on your bulbs the new ones should be brighter as well. I paid around $26/bulb at my local Checker auto parts.

There really isn't one. All those white or blue bulbs such as Silverstars have a life expectancy of about 2 months. If I were you, I'd save the $10-20 and just buy a normal bulb. I had Silverstars and they lasted about a month and cost $40 something for the pair.
You can buy an HID kit for about $100 or less that will significantly improve vision. Do a search on ebay, there's several different kits. Installation is very straightforward and with the ease of removing the headlights in our cars it can be accomplished in about an hour. That would be money better spent than those pricey, unreliable "white" bulbs. |
My Silverstars are at least 2 years old
maybe 3. No great improvement over stock, but perhaps some.
No yellowing of headlight lenses. I have them in low beams and high. |
Maybe I just got a bad batch but, at $40 for bulbs I'm not willing to try again. :(

One of my low beams died just short of two years old. The other three are hanging in there. Expensive? ... yes. Brighter/whiter than original? ... yes. Worth the the money? ... for me yes, but its a close call.

As you know, this stuff is highly subjective. It might be slightly "cooler", but its not blue, and that is anything but cool in my opinion. Visibility seems better. This is real world, seat of the pants testing, and definitely not scientific. The major flaw in my testing was not trying a set of new OEMs before the Ultras.
Would I do it again, not sure... maybe... Oh, and by the way, I have four spare bulbs of the OEM variety |
Thanks everyone for the input... I'm going to try the Silverstar and see what happens.
