Is my wiper motor shot?
While driving through NC this evening in heavy rain, heading back to NJ after my IMS retrofit in GA, my wipers stopped working. I pulled off at the next exit and immediately checked the (25A) fuse and it was blown. I popped in a new fuse and it blew immediately. Then I ran over to Walmart and bought a microfiber cloth and a bottle of Rain-X, took advantage of a break in the rain to apply it, and was on my way.
Everything else electrical is working fine, from what I can tell. I'm still en route and can't really take time until this weekend for serious diagnosis. Do you guys think it's the wiper motor or a faulty ignition switch? I'm betting it's a short in the motor. If it's the motor, do you suggest new or remanufactured, if one's actually available? Anyone know of a cross VW/Audi cross-reference? Thanks, Gary '02S w/70k mi |
Anyone, anyone???
I broke down and ordered a new motor, $205+shipping from Sunset. |
I guess we'll all learn from your experience. It seems to me things like wiper motors live on indefinitely (I've never had one die, even on my old high school cars).
