Car covers

Anybody have recommendations for car covers for use outside? (This is for my son's car---the Boxster stays in a dry, comfy garage :D He's got a birthday coming up.)

Maybe there's a better way to do this, but I've searched under "car cover" and all kinds of posts with "car" and "cover" come up, the vast majority of which have NOTHING to do with what I'm looking for.

BTW, his car is NOT a Boxster, so any references to companies that make covers only for Porsche, or Porsche and BMW, etc. won't be particularly useful. (He drives a Celica GT-S.)

First decide what you want to protect from

This site Cal Car Covers will help you select a fabric that suites your weather conditions.

I used a Noah fabric cover from them to protect from bird drippings, snow and ice. No problem over 4 years use. Good as new. And I'd take a push broom to get the 8" of snow off and up to 1" of ice to take it out occasionally when we got a break in the temperatures. Even under melting snow I always found the car itself dry.

You want something that is soft on the inside so as not to abrade the car's finish, a clean car so dirt doesn't get ground down and a tight fit so the cover doesn't get pulled around in the wind. Also something that can be washed in a commercial laundry.

For a Porsche, one man fitment was trivial. For a larger machine, no idea.

Covercraft makes excellent car covers and if you can find the one you need in their outlet store, it will save you some money. A couple of years back I found one for my old 300ZX and instead of paying $139.00 it was around $65.00.

car cover

I've been thinking about getting one from these guys. I've bought other stuff from them (not for the Boxster) before. Their prices seem to be about the same as most. The Evolution fabric seems to be very good. I have a cover that I use on the Boxster made from this material. The cover is for a Mazda 626 and doesn't fit very well, so I'm considering buying one especially for the Boxster.

I purchased a pretty nice, fitted, car cover through a Costco special a couple months ago. Company that made them is Coverking. Paid $120 for it iirc. came with a lock and cable too.
