Flat Six Music

This forum is full of people wanting their music louder, or clearer, or to have more bass. My radio and CD disc changer work just fine, but I never turn them on. I want to hear the music of the flat six. I also like to listen to every sound the Box makes, paying special attention to anything out of the norm.
Am I the only one? Does everyone else prefer the radio or the CD player?

Formula One singing engine

Nope, your not the only one. Love the sound of my engine Don't use the radio all that often either.

Perhaps this music will be more to your tune:

I usually turn the radio off over 40mph.

I use to do that too, I only used the radio when i couldnt afford repairs... Classic Punk music seems to cure any noises the boxster made.

I wish I knew what you guys were talking about. My stock 01S sounds like a camry on the frwy. But I grew up with air cooled flat 6 (914-6). Now that is music! Drive one of those and be prepared to fork over $$$.

First off Boxsters come stock with crappy stereos IMO...hmmmm listen to muffled music or the sweet purring of the engine. That is a no brainer but if you are on a road trip that is when a good stereo is invaluable. Windy roads, good scenery, top down and good music, now that is wonderful. A hot chick in the passenger seat doesn't suck either

My suggestion is to upgrade the stereo so that you have the option to enjoyably listen to the stereo or if the mood suits you, you can turn it off and listen to the music of German engineering. Better yet, get some MB Quart speakers and then either way you will be listening to German engineering.

Also remember that the hot chick in the passenger seat would much rather listen to music than the engine

Why not be able to enjoy the best of both worlds.

My brother drove my box for the first time last month, after having a 1973 911 he was disappointed in the sound. He said the air cooled 911 was far less refined and made more noise, he was pretty much impressed with the rest of the evolution.

I never use the stereo in my Box, even all with the speakers and such. My car makes beautiful music as is; Evo Hi -Flo intake, Fabspeed secondary cat bypass pipes and modifed sport muffler.

You want to listen to music? Sit in your den...(though I do listen while wrenching out in the garage).

I am guessing you still have a stock stereo "I never use the stereo in my Box, even all with the speakers and such...You want to listen to music? Sit in your den" You stereo haters are starting to sound like a bunch of Porsche elitist snobs

Nothing like listening to the constant drone of your exhaust for hours on end while driving down the highway. Boxster engines are relatively quiet except WOT.

Spirited driving, definitely no stereo, highway driving stereo is a must

I took the stereo and related parts out of my 911...waste of space and extra weight. I'd do the same to the Box, but sometimes my son drives with me and he likes it.

Nothing "elitist" about it...just my personal preference.

I know many on this forum don't use their Boxsters as daily driver's but if you do, and you sit in traffic like I do, then the radio is a must. Sat radio is even better.

I listen to the engine when doing spirited driving, when the engine seems to be misbehaving or does not feel right, or when I just want to relax and enjoy the relative silence.

But most of the time I will listen to XM, FM, CD,'s, or some of the 150 gb of music I keep on my ipod, and listen to it LOUD, thats why I am dragging around 600 watts of extra amplifiers. To be fair, I generally only play it loud when I am not around other folks that could be annoyed by the racket. I know its only rock and roll, but I like it...

Ed, was that you cruising outside my window at 6am?

As my daily driver I listen to the radio so much that turning it on is part of the routine: get in, start car, reverse out of space (optional), turn on radio. Unless I'm in a parking garage in which case it's: get in, start car, leave garage, turn on radio. Because of this I will sometimes actually turn off the radio and listen to the sweet purr of the flat six behind me. I don't always thing about it but what a treat when I do. I installed a Wevo motor mount this summer and now actually have to turn up the radio louder to hear it over the increased cabin noise. So now I guess you can say I listen to the engine and the radio at the same time! (Wevo mount fails the girlfriend test)

Can't we all agree that to each his own . I personally find no satifaction listening to the engine/road noise. Even with my Boxster de-snorked, I only enjoy it oh, like 1% of the time. I would much rather jam some tunes with my new infinity kappas and JVC head unit. Everyone has their own tastes and preferences. Some people like to sit on their front porch drinking beer, watching cars go by; While others would rather sit on their back porch looking at the stars and drinking wine.
