Replacement battery: Duralast 48-DL

After a couple of months of slower starts, and one pop start a couple of autocrosses ago, my OEM battery finally quit on me. Despite the dire "30 minute labor intensive installation" warning you'll see on the Autozone web site, you'll need a 13mm socket, a 10mm socket, a ratchet, an extension, and about 5 minutes.

Although the vent on the Duralast battery is not in the same location as the OEM battery, the factory tubing was sufficiently long. I used some spare tubing I had lying around to mate the vent outlet on the battery to the tubing. I used about an inch of tubing, and added about half an inch of smaller diameter tube to get a snug fit around the OEM fitting. Resist the urge to blow this off - a couple of minutes of your time now saves you the nasty surprise of a frunk full of hydrogen later...

The Duralast fits very snugly, offers more cold cranking amps than the OEM battery, weighs several pounds less, and is cheaper. It doesn't get much better than that! $89.99, including 24-month replacement and 84-month pro-rated warranty.

Now I can fire up the Boxster and go make some new friends in the law-enforcement community.

Nice post, I need a new battery also. I was doing some research on the optima as they dont need to be vented, but they are fricking expensive. Seeing how easy yours is vented I might pick up one. Thanks again!!

Side note: Moderator should move this over to DIY thread as it will help a few people like me.

I bought one of those a while back. Great battery! Easy to install too.

I'm a fanatic about my car but I draw the line on batteries. I had a friend who
bought optima for his boat and he wasn't happy he spent the extra cash. I always had good luck with Interstate megatrons but if I'm not mistaken my Porsche has a delco at the moment.
