Schnell strut brace preload
I installed the brace today, but I'm not sure how much preload to use. I also can't get the bar to turn once it's been installed and torqued down... yes, the locknuts are loose. Any tips? Thanks!

I installed one recently too and had a similar problem. There's no good way to get that bar tight. Looks cool, but should have been hex bar instead of round so that we could get a wrench on it. Your best option may be to try to grab it with some channel locks and tighten it that way, but you risk marring your nice new bar. I just got mine good and hand tight and then locked it in place. I figure you can't put much preload on these any way. The brackets are kind flexy, so I don't think it's a big deal. Disconnect one side and push it up. You'll see how much the bracket on the other side can flex.
You're trying to preload it pushing OUT, right? At least that's how I would think you would want to load it, to help stop and inward deflection of the shock towers under heavy cornering with compression then being applied to the bar. Kirk |
Try using a rubber strap wrench.

Thanks for the replies... and yeah, a strap wrench. Duh. :)
