convertible top does not retract (open)

I have a 98 boxster and i have just had a problem with the convertible top not retracting into the back. I see a trunk lid light on. Would that cause the problem? How would i disable the trunk lid light sensor?

Do you see the PARKING BRAKE light on after starting the engine? if NO----pull of the plastic side piece by the parking brake--wiggle the two wires and spray liberally with
contact cleaner--thanks to Pedros garage for helping me out with this problem.
