I prefer the way the system is set up in my '07 Nissan Altima, personally.
All I do is get in the car, and with the keys still in my pocket, the car identifies the key being in my pocket, and allows me to simply press the Start button, and everything fires up. No putting a key in the dash, or anything else. Just sit down, buckle up, push in the clutch, and hit the start button.
If you're going to do something funky like this, you might as well go in all the way.
